In 1963 the region "Abruzzo e Molise" was split into two regions, which, however, still today maintain a common identity both geographically and in their historical and traditional heritage.
Abruzzo: A beautiful region in central Italy, it includes the highest and grandest massifs of the Apennines Mountain chain, the Gran Sasso and the Maiella, and is home to one of Italy’s most renowned national parks, the National Park of Abruzzo. Along its beautiful Adriatic Sea coastline lie some of Italy’s premier beach resorts, such as Pescara and Vasto.
Molise: Stretching from the Apennines to the Adriatic Sea in central Italy, its sparsely populated landscape is one of forests and farms. Molise has many wonderfully interesting small towns and hamlets where the vestiges of the historic Samnite, Roman and Norman occupations still are very evident. Its coastline offers beautiful beaches, especially at Termoli.
